Position Information

This position involves working with heavy equipment. Applicants must have experience operating, maintaining, or repairing large-scale machinery from major industry manufacturers (e.g., excavators, loaders, dozers, graders, and similar types of heavy equipment) 

Remote equipment field technicians' responsibilities includeinspecting and diagnosing diesel engines and related systems (brakes, transmission, electrical, hydraulics, engines, tracks), performing routine maintenance like oil changes and filter replacements, repairing or replacing faulty parts, and conducting test drives to ensure proper function.They also use diagnostic tools, adhere to safety regulations, and communicate with customers about necessary repairs. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

The Remote Equipment Field Technician will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:  

  • Travel to customer(s) locations to perform engine and equipment-related repairs.    
  • Assist in resolving customer-related issues in a timely manner.   
  • Work with all employees and supervisors to ensure the facility is clean and organized and presents a positive image of On-Site Diesel.
  • Plan methods and sequence of performing repairs assigned.   
  • Pre-order all parts and materials required to perform assigned repairs.   
  • Inspect required repairs safely and effectively.   
  • Ensure all repairs are completed as assigned and according to manufacturer requirements.   
  • Ensure proper cosmetic appearance upon completion of repairs.    
  • Ensure all parts and materials not used are returned per Onsite Diesel  return parts guidelines.   
  • Maintain and keep the work area in a clean and safe condition.   
  • Communicate with customers in a respectful and honest manner.   
  • Match all identified solutions necessary to affect repair.   
  • Complete all work orders and time sheets in a timely manner.   
  • Consult, when necessary, with the Onsite Diesel Service Department ticket system to ensure the accuracy and approval of repairs.   
  • Ensure vehicle parts inventory is maintained at a suitable level for first-call completions and local parts sales.   
  • Perform all work in accordance with all established policies and procedures.   
  • Assist in the proper filing of warranty claims and customer invoices.  

 

Inspection and Diagnosis: 

  • Conducting physical inspections and visual checks of diesel vehicles and equipment. 
  • Using diagnostic tools and computerized systems to identify mechanical and electrical issues. 
  • Interpreting diagnostic test results to pinpoint the cause of malfunctions. 

Maintenance and Repair: 

  • Performing preventive maintenance, such as oil changes, filters and fluid checks. 
  • Repairing or replacing worn-out or damaged components, including engines, transmissions, injectors, and cooling systems. 
  • Addressing issues with critical vehicle systems like brakes, steering, exhaust, electrical, hydraulics.  

Testing and Verification: 

  • Conducting test drives to evaluate vehicle performance and verify repairs have been successful. 
  • Ensuring emissions control systems and other components meet federal and state regulations.

Communication: 

  • Consulting with customers to explain detected issues and discuss repair options. 
  • Advising customers on maintenance needs and recommended repairs. 
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Safety and Organization: 

  • Meet all local/state and company requirements to operate a company-assigned service vehicle.
  • Adhering to strict safety procedures and company policies while working. 
  • Using power, machine, and hand tools safely and effectively. 
  • Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment. 
  • Must have your own tools.  Key On-site Diesel tools will be provided.

Travel Requirements

Anticipated domestic travel is approximately 100% depending on business needs within the region. 

 

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Must be able to maintain DOT medical card status
  • Must be able to drive company vehicles
  • 1-3 years Equipment Repair and Diagnostics experience
  • 1-3 years Equipment Maintenance and Repair experience
  • 3+ year of experience working in the field exclusively

 

Preferred Requirements

  • Deutz engine maintenance and repair experience

 

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs at a time
