Job Summary

The Failure Analysis Technician will be responsible for processing and inspecting parts, engines, and producing failure reports. This role will track, inspect, and write reports on failed parts during the warranty process as well as provide administrative support to the warranty department. Additionally, the Failure Analysis Technician’s focus will be ensuring that parts are processed in a time frame the department sets to serve the customers best. The Failure Analysis Technician will liaise with our warranty department, customers, and Technical Service Management. The ideal candidate must have a mechanical aptitude and be knowledgeable in electronics with a demonstrable ability to perform electronic failure analysis.  

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 

The Failure Analysis Technician will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:  

  • Handle and inspect the logistics of warranty parts, and function test parts to decide on failure. 

  • Analyze the cause of failures to decide the merit of warranty claims and prepare failure analysis reports.  

  • Confer with assigned individuals for failure analysis on more complicated failures.  

  • Maintain warranty workshop and storage rooms to assure safety, professional appearance, and maximum efficiency. 

  • Process quality notifications as assigned.  

  • Update the SAP quality system with information on all inspections.  

  • Work in the DEUTZ Ticket system to track issues found from inspections.  

  • Create documents as needed for inspections and product support.  

  • Work with the supervisor to create continuous improvements in the inspection process and parts analysis.  

  • Assist in documenting processes in the department.  

  • Manage requests for product support-related assistance received via the Service Desk and coordinate these activities with appropriate service centers or internal personnel. 

  • Provide assistance to general product support-related matters.  

  • Prepare monthly parts inspection reports and other warranty reports as needed. 

  • Perform  other duties assigned. 

  • Performs other as assigned.

Travel Demands: Anticipated domestic and international travel is approximately 0-10% depending on business needs.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

HS Education or equivalent. 

 

Solid mechanical aptitude and electronic repair experience in a related industry or equivalent experience.  

 

Experience in Electronics Failure Analysis. 

 

Strong knowledge of electronics, digital or analogue circuitry. 

 

Strong working knowledge of internal combustion engines. 

 

Familiarity with high-frequency power conversion theory, including DC-DC, AC-DC, and attenuation. 

 

Experience and knowledge of engine repairs with the ability to safely handle DEUTZ products.  

 

Computer-oriented and experienced with Microsoft computer software programs (Word, Excel, Access).    

 

Strong electronic engine problem-solving with the ability to troubleshoot electronic engine control systems. 

 

Previous experience as a workshop or field service technician or completion of a mechanical trade school program.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work with multiple departments and personalities.  

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot electronic root issues while consistently providing mechanical expertise.   

  • Strong time management skills with the ability to multitask, work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and remain calm under pressure and stressful situations. 

  • Exceptional attention to detail and follow-through under tight timelines and pressured situations.  

  • Strong innovative and desire to-learn attitude with the ability to increase your knowledge about DEUTZ business, products, markets, and customers.  

  

LANGUAGE ABILITY: 

​​Read, analyze and interpret business, professional, technical or governmental documents. Write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, customers and the public.​ 

MATHEMATICAL ABILITY: 

​​Work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.​ 

REASONING ABILITY: 

​​Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.​

  • Manufacturing assembly and warehouse environment. Subject to noise, dust, diesel fuel, oil, and extreme hot/cold temperatures. No A/C.   

  • If Intern is located in the office area, the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
