Failure Analysis Technician

Job Summary

The primary function of the Failure Analysis Technician is processing and inspecting parts, engines, and producing failure reports. Specific focus will be on ensuring that parts are processed in a time frame that is set by the department that will best serve the customers. Position will track, inspect, and write reports on failed parts during the warranty process as well as provide administrative support to the warranty department.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Inspect and perform functional testing on components to accurately determine failure modes and defect conditions.
  • Conduct failure investigations, determine root causes, evaluate warranty claim validity, and prepare detailed failure analysis reports.
  • Collaborate with designated technical personnel and subject matter experts to resolve complex or advanced failure analysis cases.
  • Maintain the warranty workshop and storage areas to promote safety, organization, professionalism, and operational efficiency.
  • Process assigned quality notifications and ensure timely completion of required actions. Maintain accurate inspection records and update the SAP quality management system with all relevant findings and data.
  • Utilize the DEUTZ ticketing system to document, track, and manage issues identified during inspections and analyses.
  • Develop and maintain inspection procedures, work instructions, and other documentation supporting product analysis and technical support activities.
  • Partner with leadership to identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives related to inspection processes and failure analysis methodologies.
  • Assist in documenting, maintaining, and improving departmental procedures and operational processes.
  • Manage product support requests received through the Service Desk and coordinate resolution efforts with service centers and internal stakeholders.
  • Provide technical assistance and support for general product-related inquiries and issues.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

Other Qualifications

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with the ability to identify, analyze, and resolve mechanical issues.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously while adapting to changing business needs and workload demands.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Access; experience with SAP or similar ERP systems is preferred.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, objectivity, and sound judgment when working in high pressure or challenging situations.

Travel Requirements

  • Anticipated domestic and international travel is approximately 0-10% depending on business needs.

 

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with the ability to identify, analyze, and resolve mechanical issues.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously while adapting to changing business needs and workload demands.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, objectivity, and sound judgment when working in high pressure or challenging situations.

 

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience troubleshooting and diagnosing electronic engine control systems
  • Prior experience as a workshop technician, field service technician, diesel technician, or in a similar hands-on mechanical role
  • Completion of a mechanical trade, technical training, or vocational education program
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Access; experience with
  • SAP or similar ERP systems

 

Physical Requirements

  • Manufacturing assembly and warehouse environment. Subject to noise, dust, diesel fuel, oil, and extreme hot/cold temperatures. No A/C.
  • If employee is located in the office area, the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
