Job Summary

DEUTZ is dedicated to designing and developing diesel engine power packages that provide additional value to our DEUTZ customer base. The design engineer's expertise will be instrumental in the development of our DEUTZ power pack IC diesel engine solutions and other in-house engine projects. The core responsibilities will encompass the design, documentation, and validation of mechanical and electrical components, with a strong emphasis on adhering to project schedules.  It is essential that the ideal candidate has effective communication with vendors and contractors, as well as the ability to conduct meticulous tests on prototype builds. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The  ​Design Engineer​ will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties: 

 

  • Create and enhance diesel engine power packages that provide additional value to our DEUTZ customer base through innovative design and development. 

  • Utilize engineering principles and analysis to formulate the final solution concept. 

  • Produce manufacturing drawings that comply with the applicable standards set by the industry.  

  • Ensure the successful completion of design verification and product validation through adherence to the development process, placing significant importance on thorough documentation. 

  • Provide assistance in the assembly of prototype components onto the engine package and conducting thorough validation tests. 

  • Collaborate with suppliers, contractors, and the purchasing department to facilitate the production of components. 

  • Other duties as assigned.

Travel Demands: Anticipated domestic and international travel is approximately 10% depending on business needs.

BS Engineering Degree 

 

3+ years of development or application experience around diesel engines, non-road equipment, or on-highway vehicles 

 

Proficiency in 3D CAD Unigraphics and/or SOLIDWORKS GD&T 

 

Must be able to travel domestically and internationally by all transportation modes for business. 

 

Communication skills in writing, and dialogue, must be advanced, and an individual's interpersonal style must be suited for collaboration within small and large group settings 

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIRED SKILLS: 

  • Skills in using test equipment such as engine data acquisition systems, dynamometers, thermocouples, accelerometers, volt meters, etc. 

  • Working knowledge of sheet metal design and manufacturing processes. 

  • Basic knowledge of machine design, vibration analysis, structural mechanics, and thermodynamics. 

  • Knowledge in the application of Finite Element Analysis (FEA). 

  • Ability to read electrical circuitry and machine schematics. 

  • Strong attention to detail, documentation, and organizational skills. 

  • Self-motivated and able to work as a team member.  

 

LANGUAGE ABILITY: 

​​Read, analyze and interpret scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents. Respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, agencies or members of the business community. Write speeches and articles for publication.​ 

MATHEMATICAL ABILITY: 

​​Work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.​ 

REASONING ABILITY: 

​​Define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.​

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is in an office and manufacturing setting. While in the office, the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.   

  • While performing duties that will require the individual to be on the manufacturing floor, the individual will have continuous exposure to typical engine environment, no A/C, and exposure to running engines in a closed environment with appropriate protective gear.
