Export Control Compliance & Risk Management
In this role, you ensure that the sales team and the entire organization fully comply with national and international export control laws, including:
- National defense and security export controls (e.g., BAFA in Germany, UK Export Control Joint Unit, etc.)
- EU Dual-Use Regulations
- U.S. ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) & EAR (Export Administration Regulations)
You oversee the screening of customers, partners, and suppliers against restricted party lists. You work closely with the back-office team to ensure that all export licenses, permits, and documentation are properly maintained and submitted. Additionally, you conduct internal audits and risk assessments to identify potential compliance gaps and mitigate risks. You act as the primary point of contact for international authorities and internal compliance teams.
Ethical Code of Conduct & Cross-Functional Training
- You ensure that all sales and business unit employees understand and adhere to the company’s ethical code of conduct regarding international trade and defense-related sales. You establish and maintain an internal reporting mechanism for compliance concerns and promote a compliance-first mindset by integrating ethical business practices into decision-making at all levels.
Strategic Localization & Production Planning
- You provide expert guidance on localization strategies and production requirements to ensure compliance with export control laws in this context. You assess the regulatory impact of planning and implementing local production facilities in various regions. You support business expansion and market entry strategies by advising on country-specific export control restrictions and production incentives. Additionally, you work closely with supply chain and legal teams to ensure that procurement, logistics, and supplier agreements align with export control policies.
License & Documentation Oversight
- You manage the application, tracking, and renewal of export licenses, Technical Assistance Agreements (TAAs), and end-user certificates. You ensure accurate record-keeping of all export-related transactions and approvals for audit readiness and maintain communication with government agencies to obtain necessary permits and clearances. Furthermore, you provide guidance on technology transfer regulations to ensure compliance with dual-use and military-use classifications.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Communication
- In your role, you serve as an export control advisor to the Sales Director, regional sales, and Customer Success teams. You work closely with legal & compliance, research & development, and supply chain management teams to align business operations with regulatory frameworks. You stay informed about evolving regulations, trade embargoes, and geopolitical risks, advising the business unit on necessary adjustments accordingly.
