Job Summary

The Service Supervisor will supervise and perform repairs, testing, and modifications of new and used engines at the DEUTZ Power Centers. The Service Supervisor will liaise with the Branch Manager, Parts Supervisor, New Engine Sales Dept, Service Sale Manager, Technicians, Engineering Dept, and internal/external customers. This role requires monitoring and supervising Field Technician’s job performance utilizing KPIs, service software, customer feedback, and training performance. The ideal must be knowledgeable with diesel engines, hydraulics, power generation, and related power train componentry with a demonstrable ability to manage both DEUTZ and Non-DEUTZ service businesses. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The  ​Service Supervisor​ will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties: 

  • Perform and supervise inspection of non-DEUTZ repairs and equipment (Total Equipment Repair) & effectively communicate required repairs with customers. 

  • Manage, schedule, quote, and invoice all service jobs. 

  • Work with the value-add technicians to create work instructions, update excel spreadsheets with updated information for required components needed for specific builds and assist in troubleshooting and diagnostics. 

  • Prepare and file warranty claims on completed repairs. 

  • Responsible for documentation of Workshop and Field activities. 

  • Procurement of parts and materials needed for Workshop and Field activities. 

  • Perform inspection of damaged engines and communicate required repairs with customers. 

  • Supervise the repairs of engines damaged by shipping and handling. 

  • Perform dynamometer testing of engines, as required. 

  • Assist with developing and continuously improving line layout, equipment needs, and assembly processes for field and shop repairs. 

  • Work with the Branch Manager to purchase and maintain specialty tooling workshop and field requirements per DEUTZ AG expectations. 

  • Investigate and resolve all customer-related issues in a timely matter. 

  • Understand and ensure that all direct reports and visitors follow company policies and procedures, including maintaining a safe work environment.  

  • Perform all duties as the Branch Safety Coordinator, including weekly and monthly safety audits. 

  • Ensure that the Branch facility and assigned service vehicles are clean, and organized, and present a positive image of DEUTZ. 

  • Find, Grow, and manage both DEUTZ and Non-DEUTZ service businesses. 

  • Maintain 80% or higher utilization for shop, field, and technician in van operations. 

  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:  This role has direct reports.  

 

Travel Demands: This role requires anticipated domestic and international travel of approximately 10 - 20 % depending on business needs.

High School Diploma. 

 

Successful completion of all required DEUTZ training classes. 

 

Minimum 3 Years of Diesel engine job experience. 

 

Strong working knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, power generation, and related power train componentry. 

 

Ability to work and carry out job description with minimal to no supervision. Must be able to carry out tasks with a maximum degree of quality. 

 

Must possess a valid driver’s license, be insurable by the company, and can operate a company vehicle in accordance with all state and federal laws, company policies, and guidelines. 

 

Must be able to work as a team member and leader. 

 

Strong understanding and knowledge of diesel engine fuel systems and operating principles.  

 

Strong understanding of troubleshooting engine problems with the ability to understand and follow detailed assembly procedures. 

 

Knowledge and ability to perform engine dynamometer testing. 

 

Computer knowledge in (MS Office, Word, and Excel)  

 

SAP and Field Aware are a plus. 

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIRED SKILLS: 

  • Strong understanding of torque values and special procedures during engine assembly. 

  • Ability to operate a forklift, overhead crane, and hand power tools. 

  • Ability to manage a territory and handle multiple tasks efficiently. 

  • Report field activities and gather/refine ideas on how to improve DEUTZ products and policies. 

  • Assist in engine application/installation inspection. 

  • Handle all administrative issues in a business-like manner, including call reports, itineraries, expense reports, budgets, forecasts, and request from others for action or information. 

  • Strong desire to increase personal knowledge about the DEUTZ business, brand, products, markets, and the customers we serve (Increasing your knowledge is an ongoing process). 

LANGUAGE ABILITY: 

​​Read, analyze and interpret business, professional, technical or governmental documents. Write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, customers and the public.​ 

MATHEMATICAL ABILITY: 

​​Work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.​ 

REASONING ABILITY: 

​​Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.​
